A retired Muay Thai and MMA fighter, Mukai Maromo is a Business and Lifestyle Consultant whose life journey has spanned over four countries and over a dozen cities, and continues to grow! Born and raised in Harare Zimbabwe, Mukai spent his pre-teen years in transition between numerous towns and cities, before attending boarding school at the age of 14. At the age of 18, Mukai was accepted into Livingstone College, a Historically Black University located in Salisbury, North Carolina, on an academic and athletic scholarship.
After a decorated stint as an NCAA track and field athlete and in his Jr year of university, Mukai migrated to Canada with his family in 2005, a move which took his life in an unexpected direction for the better. It was at this time that he discovered the martial arts, namely Muay Thai. After his first amateur competition, Mukai decided to forego the remainder of his university career and start working towards becoming a professional Muay Thai and Kickboxing competitor at the age of 22. After a decorated amateur and professional career in the world of Muay Thai and Kickboxing, Mukai was ready for his next challenge, and in 2010, he ventured into the world of mixed martial arts, MMA. In two action packed years, Mukai strategically stringed ten fights together, and competed for the Lightweight World Title in the Maximum Fighting Championship, one of the top pioneers MMA organizations, and at the time, one of the top MMA organizations in the world.
In 2013. Mukai officially retired from the world of professional combat sports, a move that signaled his transition into the world of entrepreneurship. A certified Muay Thai instructor and personal trainer, Mukai spent the next two years teaching hundreds of students the art of Muay Thai, and coaching scores as a personal trainer. 2015 solidified Mukai’s status and a successful entrepreneur as he co-founded VIVA VOCE, an agency that specialized prescribing and implementing marketing and production strategies. During his time at VIVA, Mukai gained profound industry knowledge and worked with numerous recognizable brands, including Henry Singer, Epcor, Volvo Edmonton, and Crystal Glass to name a few. The tail end of 2016 saw Mukai venture into his next challenge, co-founding Next Level Martial Arts in the fall of 2016, and solidifying it as one of Edmonton’s premier family martial arts studios.
Today Mukai is the president of the Edmonton Combat League (ECL), an amateur combative sporting organization he founded in 2017 in order to showcase and grow the martial arts. In just two years, the ECL has grown to be one of the top Muay Thai and Kickboxing promotions in Canada, and has been featured on the Fight Network and FITE TV. Mukai also provides consultancy services in business optimization as well as lifestyle and personal development through Mukai Maromo Consulting. The pillars of Mukai Maromo Consulting are based on a philosophy that Mukai derived during his fighting career, consistency, seriousness, communication and integrity!
